Challenge

The 'Schwarzwaldhochstraße' is notorious for being one of the most accident-prone motorcycle routes in Germany, with current safety measures failing to reduce the high number of incidents. In particular, the 'Helbingfelsen' area has seen an alarming increase in fatal accidents, often caused by reckless riding behavior from the 'poser scene'.

How can we raise awareness of the dangers, reduce accidents, all without relying on traditional, heavy-handed measures like speed limits, rumble strips, or shock tactics?

Idea

We want to appeal to mutual respect among bikers and honor those who lost their lives on the Schwarzwaldhochstraße – not with a minute of silence, but with a kilometer of silence.

We turn the most accident-prone stretch of the road into a living memorial: This 1,000-meter stretch invites riders to voluntarily slow down, offering a moment of reflection on the dangers of the route and the lives lost.

By reducing speed, riders and drivers not only reduce the risk of accidents but also turn their journey into a tribute, cultivating respect and honoring those who have passed.

A kilometer that saves lives by reminding us of those who lost theirs.
